BLOWING ROCK, N.C. – The Elrod-Greene Cemetery is covered in orange and white flags.

  • Initially, the cemetery had 28 plots and now has 100 more.
  • Some graves are of Revolutionary War soldiers.
  • Cemetery caretaker wants to find the families of those buried there.

Andrew Critcher started Klutz Preservation in honor of his great-great grandfather who was a caretaker for another cemetery. He decided to take on this one in his honor.

“God told me to,” says Critcher.

He says he felt like there were more graves than stones on the property and when they started looking, they found more than 100 additional graves. Some of them date back to the Revolutionary War.

The oldest marked grave was in the late 1880s, but now he feels this goes back much further.

“Some people came the other day and said 1700's,” he says. "Some of the people are buried sideways and cocked and stuffed. They are not in rows by any means."

The cemetery only had 28 plots, but now it has 104 more graves. He says he’s now trying to find families for those buried.

“I believe everyone deserves a stone and to be talked about some,” he said.

He says he plans on getting a foot and headstone stone for every person in the cemetery.
