CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- LimeBike faces major backlash after rolling out scooters without approval.

  • 7 scooter sites are set up within a 5-mile radius of Uptown.
  • Company never got approval from the city.
  • City issued a cease and desist

LimeBike rolled out 50-100 of their electric scooters in Charlotte on Tuesday, offering the city a sampling of their newest way to be mobile.

LimeBike says this is just a demo, so they will use the next couple of months to see how things go, then work with the city to make any needed adjustments.

However, new reports suggest that the company never got approval from the city in the first place.

The city has issued a cease and desist to LimeBike which will be active on May 10, having given the company three days to comply.

City officials are expecting to see the scooters taken away, or further action will be pursued.
