  • Gulutzan fired after Flames missed Stanley Cup Playoffs for seventh time in nine seasons

According to the National Hockey League website, Peters, who resigned from the Hurricanes Friday, received a multiyear contract with the Flames.

He will be replacing Glen Gulutzan who was fired April 17 after the Flames missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the seventh time in nine seasons.

"I look forward to working with the players that are already here in place and the people in the pipelines that are coming," Peters said. "I think it's a very good team and a team that's set up to win and to play the modern game. The majority of the core is still in their prime and still has room to grow, a higher ceiling to reach. It's just an exciting group."
