CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The roommate of a man whose dream car, a 1992 Corvette, was set on fire is speaking out after it was revealed she was previously involved with the suspect.

  • Man's roommate says she went on dates with suspect
  • Police say this incident is not a hate crime
  • Suspect is accused of setting another car on fire

Sapphire Ashley says she only met the suspect, Jackson Brooks, last Tuesday for the first time. She says they went on a couple of dates. The next time she'd hear about him, Jackson was allegedly setting her roommate's car on fire.

“What did I do to you that makes you so angry? What did I do to set you off,” Ashley said.

She says their entire house hasn't slept since the incident early Wednesday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers said Thursday that the suspect, Brooks, also torched another car about an hour before the Corvette.
