SALISBURY, N.C. -- Salisbury police say they received a call a little after 1 a.m. Thursday that a man was in cardiac arrest at this home on East Franklin Street.

When they arrived police say they found 75-year-old Eugene Chunn dead with obvious signs of trauma.

Neighbors waking up this morning are shocked by the news.

They say Chunn was a very community-oriented man that never had a problem with anyone.

They also said  that he had just finished remodeling his home, after it was burned in a fire last year.

One person we spoke with says Mr. Chunn was like a father figure to many kids on the street and would even employ them to cut his lawn or wash his car so they could earn a little bit of money growing up just to be nice.

Police are still actively investigating this case, anyone with information is asked to contact the Salisbury Police Department or Crimestoppers.
