After a cold start to the morning Tuesday, temperatures will make a quick rebound by the afternoon to kick off a brief warming trend that will last through Wednesday. A cold front sweeping through Wednesday night into Thursday will bring another cool down to end the work week.

With temperatures hovering near or even below freezing to start the day Tuesday, lots of sunshine throughout the afternoon will allow highs to be warmer than Monday's, with temperatures expected to top off in the mid to upper 60s across the Piedmont with 50s in the mountains.

Winds will still remain quite strong in the mountains, however, with wind gusts near 50 mph possible through the day before they begin to diminish by Tuesday evening. A system brewing off towards parts of the Northern Rockies will lift its warm front north of the region Wednesday, allowing daytime highs to soar back into the upper 70s and low 80s under another day of ample sunshine.

The cold front attached to this aforementioned system will move through the region late Wednesday night into early Thursday. This front won't be packing much in terms of moisture, so the only chance for showers will remain confined to the mountains. After that, expect a good 10 to 15 degree cool down from Wednesday, with highs cooling back in the 60s.

The end of the work week into the first half of the weekend will feature plenty of sunshine, dry conditions, and slightly below average temperatures. Our next best chance for rain won't arrive until early next week.
