The Weather on the 1s team is tracking a line of powerful storms moving from west to east across the Carolinas. Some storms along that line will be capable of producing tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, hail, torrential downpours, and frequent lightning.
At 5:10 p.m., emergency management officials relayed multiple reports of tornado on the ground near Gate City Bouleveard and US Highway 29 in Greensboro. Doppler radar detected debris from the tornado around the same time.
Earler in the afternoon in Gaston County, North Carolina, local law enforcement reported trees down on some homes after a severe storm moved through the area. In at least home home, there was a report that residents were trapped. Hail up to the size of golf balls was also reported in the area.
The threat for severe storms should come to an end in the Charlotte area before 10 p.m., in Greensboro before midnight, and in Raleigh and Fayetteville by 2 a.m. The threat for storms could continue until almost sunrise Monday along some sections of the North Carolina coast.
