WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- The Wake County School Board passed a plan for the K-3 class size mandate at their meeting Tuesday night.

It is no longer required for the 2018-2019 school year, but will be required in the 2021-2022 school year and it reduces class size from 20 students to 17 students.

Immediate options include:

  • Faculty modifications
  • Capping schools
  • Track assignment changes

In the long term, to meet the new requirements, schools may consider:

  • Temporary classrooms (mobile units)
  • Capping
  • Redistricting
  • Track conversions
  • Adding new schools
