BUNCOMBE, N.C. -- Appalachian Wildlife Refuge received some big donations this week.

The nonprofit put a call out on Facebook a year ago asking for used mascara wands to clean small animals.

The group takes in wildlife that is injured or orphaned, and the wands are a perfect way to clean larvae, ticks, and fleas off the animals.

They received a lot of donations from all around the world, seven bins worth when they picked them up at the post office.

They not only received mascara wands but also more than 1,000 items off their wish list.

Appalachian Wildlife Refuge also received wands from major companies like MAC, including 139,000 unused wands.

The group has been distributing the wands around North Carolina and are now looking for a corporate sponsor to help send them country-wide.
