HUNTERSVILLE, N.C.  -- The Metropolitan Transit Commission will continue to fund a more than $3 million study to bring rail service to the Lake Norman area.

The Charlotte-Area Transit System is spending the money to study alternate routes for the Red Line after Norfolk Southern said it won't share its tracks with passenger trains.

However, the mayor of Huntersville, John Anaralla, believes the money should be spent on more immediate transit needs.

The MTC voted Thursday night 8-1 to continue the study.

The study on the commuter rail will wrap up in the fall.
