SANFORD, N.C. – Three officers are now on leave and a man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Lee County.

It happened Tuesday around 10:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Goldsboro Avenue in Sanford.

The step-son of the man who was shot and killed told Spectrum News his family has suffered at hands of this man for a long time.

Calls to 911 show there were two calls made. One caller warned their step-father was not allowed at the home.

The second call came after police say 41-year-old Juan Carlos Romero shot another person in the home, which we now know was his 19-year-old daughter.

When officers arrived, they say Romero also tried to shoot at officers, which is when they fired back.

Romero's stepson says there was an argument in the home and alleges the father had threatened to hurt members of their family.

Here's part of the first 911 call made:

Operator: “Hello?”

Caller: “Um, yes. I am calling. Two cops came over for a situation and the two officers told us if my stepdad ever came home to call y ’all because he is not allowed to be here today.”

Operator: “OK. What is his name?”

Caller: “Umm, Juan Carlos Romero.”

The step-brother said his sister is expected to be ok.

The SBI is still currently investigating the case.
