CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for a lead after a 12-year-old boy was shot in east Charlotte Tuesday night.

They say the boy was in an apartment on Eastcrest Drive just off Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood when someone shot into the home just before 10.

The boy was shot in the arm and is expected to be OK.

Three other kids were in the home, but no one else was hurt.

When officers Chad Henderson and Michael Summerfield arrived, they immediately applied a tourniquet to the boy’s arm to try and stop the bleeding.

Police haven’t said if the house was the intended target or if this was a random shooting, but they say it’s terrifying that a child was nearly killed by a senseless act of violence.

“That kid is lucky he’s alive this morning. That kid is lucky he’s alive this morning. That bullet, after it went through his arm, lodged into his pillow. This kid was in his bedroom, listening to music on the telephone. Now, if you’re not safe in your own home, just before 10 at night, sitting on your bed in your bedroom, listening to music, this is serious stuff,” said Rob Tufano, CMPD.

CMPD says right now no arrests have been made in this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call CMPD or Crime Stoppers.
