SHELBY, N.C. -- A shooting turned into a standoff in Shelby Monday.

It happened on South Lafayette Street across from Hope Community Church. It all started Monday afternoon continuing well into the evening.

One person was shot and taken to a nearby hospital. The suspect then locked themselves in a home.

The Shelby Police Department says the suspect surrendered around 9 p.m.
