CHARLOTTE -- Some 600 individuals, all impacted by the opioid crisis in one way or another, packed the Charlotte Convention Center for a summit on the topic Thursday. Attendees took a hard look at what our area and state is doing right - such as reducing the oversupply of these prescription drugs - and where we need to improve.

“We still have people who can’t get into treatment services. Need to look into funding for that but also prevention,” said Meck Co. Asst. Health Director Conne Mele. “[We] need to start working with children to develop resiliency factors so they don’t develop the disease.”

The task force will review recommendations from the summit panel to see if there are areas surrounding the epidemic that need further investigation.
