CHARLOTTE -- Rapper and entrepreneur Diddy, alongside Charlotte native and Golden State Warriors player Stephen Curry are said to be among a "diverse" group that an e-commerce billionaire is putting together to purchase the Carolina Panthers.

A source tells ESPN that billionaire Michael Rubin is putting together group of potential minority owners for his bid.

Rubin's name first emerged as a serious contender as an owner on Sunday.

He is the owner of the online sports retailer Fanatics and owns stakes in the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, the NHL's New Jersey Devils and the Premier League's Crystal Palace.

A team owner can have 25 members in their ownership group.

We first learned that the Panthers would be put up for sale after workplace misconduct allegations surfaced against the team's founder and current owner, Jerry Richardson.
