SURRY COUNTY, N.C. -- In the Piedmont Triad the snow came down all morning, impacting roads across the region.

Several school systems were delayed or closed early, and the State Highway Patrol has reported multiple accidents. 

Surry County's Emergency Services director said they first got calls of snowfall around 4 a.m. Monday. As the snow continues to fall, their focus now is handling wrecks.

A tractor trailer flipped and released at least 50 gallons of fuel on the roadway on West Pine Street in Mount Airy. Officials say they expect to be cleaning up the mess most of the day.

 

 

So far officials say they've responded to at least 70 accidents in the Surry County area, a few with minor injuries.
