WILMINGTON -- The NCDOT is pushing to find solutions to alleviate congestion in Wilmington, specifically along Military Cutoff Road.

More than 41,000 cars drive along the road daily, and that number is expected to climb with the growth along the coast.

Just last week the city and NCDOT agreed to one single plan which includes an overpass. Officials say, instead of turning left on Eastwood, the new plan calls for a left turn further down at Drysdale Drive. And to get to the beach, drivers will make a right turn onto Commonwealth Drive, which will take people up over the road and towards Wrightsville Beach.

But the changes have some nearby homeowners concerned.

"I don’t like the solution of an overpass where you can see houses down below. I think it's going to kill the value of our neighborhood,” said Mary Anne Collins.

The project will cost $26 million and is fully funded. NC DOT said work is expected to begin between 2020 and 2021.
