CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. -- A plan to tear down Carolina Beach’s Federal Point Shopping Center and replace it with a Publix is on hold. because of a legal dispute between the new federal point owners and a proposed Harris Teeter on the adjacent property.

Meanwhile, current business owners said they’ve seen a dip in sales after an announcement was made last fall to tear down the aging buildings to make way for a new Publix and other stores.

“People assume that we are going out of business and that they can't bring their stuff to us. And that’s just not true,” said Jill Lions, business owner.

With the legal dispute, there’s not a timetable set for construction on the new shopping center.
