NORTH CAROLINA -- Alligator hunting is now legal in the Tar Heel State, but there won't be an alligator season this year.

Thursday, the NC Wildlife Resource Commission approved a limited number of alligator kills in order to decrease the number of human-alligator interactions.

Wildlife officials have not yet determined when the alligator season would start, but whenever it does it will last from Sept. 1 through Oct. 1.

Only one gator will be allowed per permit.

There will also be specifications on how the gator can be killed.

Permits for hunting will cost $5.
