CHARLOTTE – More information has been released about a man who touched millions of people around the world preaching the gospel has just been released.

  • Reverend Graham's body will be transported from Asheville to Charlotte on Saturday.
  • Public visitation will be held at The Graham Homeplace at the Billy Graham Library Monday and Tuesday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Additional days might be added, depending on crowds)
  • He will lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda from Feb. 28 to March 1. 
  • The funeral service will be in Charlotte March 2 at noon. It will be private.

Rev. Billy Graham, 99, died at home in Montreat Wednesday at around 7:46 a.m., according to spokesperson Mark Demoss of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Rev. Graham was not in the company of family members at his time of death.

His cause of death has not been announced. His doctor told the family that he, “just wore out.”

Demoss says the preacher was diagnosed with Parkinson-like symptoms in 1990. 2013 was the last time he had been admitted to a hospital for any reason. Nearly 10 years ago, he began planning his funeral, which includes a tent service. People close to him say he wanted his funeral to “reflect and reinforce the gospel message.”

Graham's casket was made in 2006 by inmates at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. The same as his wife's casket. Ruth Graham died at age 87 in 2007.

There will be multiple services with activities in Asheville and Charlotte for the man also known as America's Pastor. His final resting spot will be next to his wife at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Library.
