CHARLOTTE -- Could wine country be coming to Charlotte? A new petition to the Charlotte City Council wants to bring wineries to the city.

The petition was submitted by Bold Rock Cider Company, and is asking city council to allow wineries in the same zoning areas as breweries.

Right now, breweries are allowed in mixed-use development and transit oriented districts.

Brian Williams is the general manager at Heist Brewery and says, after the rise of the craft beer scene, wineries would be a great addition to the growing Uptown area.

"We carry a few different wines here, but we'd love to be able to carry a local, made in Charlotte wine at some point if that would be possible," Williams says.

The Charlotte City Council is set to discuss the petition during their zoning meeting Monday night.
