CHARLOTTE -- Bank of America's returning talent workshop helps people with breaks in their careers to gain the skills and resources to get back to work.

Just about all of the participants were women.

According to the Pew Research Center, 40 percent of mothers take a break from work to take care of family.

"We see often that women will leave the workplace to care for children midcareer," said Diversity and Inclusion Executive Lauren Hood. "Their career has been on a certain trajectory, and then they take a pause or timeout."

The annual growth rate of women in the workforce outpaces men, but the Pew Research Center estimates the female share of the labor force will plateau at 47 percent over the next 40 plus years.
