DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- Months after Mecklenburg County servers were hit by a hack, another North Carolina county is dealing with a ransomware attack.

Davidson County held an emergency meeting Friday about how to deal with the virus that placed an encryption on 70 of the county's servers and desktops.

Officials say no personal data has been compromised, but the county's data is encrypted and not accessible at this time.

They're now deciding whether to pay the ransom or rebuild the servers, which could take months.

"We are trying to figure out the best approach, but we have lots of help: the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, the state, the FBI. They're investigating to see where it came from," said Davidson County Manager Zeb Hanner.

County commissioners will meet again Monday afternoon to decide how to move forward.
