WILMINGTON -- As GenX lingers in local waters, the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority is creating a new department to combat these kinds of chemicals. The Public and Environmental Policy Department will manage policy issues. It will also focus on emerging contaminant and source water protection. CFPUA said a key goal is to ensure that the utility is contributing to the long-term health of the community and its natural environment.

"Taking care of the river and taking care of the aquifers, all the places that we draw water from is incredibly important. And one of the best ways to do that is to work with local experts and work with our partners in local government. And to really form a network of people who are looking at these things from all the different perspectives,” said Lindsey Hallock, CFPUA.

CFPUA reassures their water is safe to drink and they continue to look at technologies to ensure water quality.
