CHAPEL HILL--- The organization in charge of the state's colleges and universities has a new look today.

President Margaret Spellings says the UNC General Administration will now be known as the University of North Carolina system.

She says it's to reflect and unify all of the state's 17 campuses. She unveiled the new logo Wednesday at the Spangler Center, where the system is headquartered.

“I'm really excited about it because its a logo, brand and effort that really elevates the unified platform that is the University of North Carolina System.”

The new logo has the same colors and font as the state flag. It's in the shape of North Carolina, but has 17 sides to represent the 17 campuses.

“This new logo, this new brand really hearkens to our past to the  storied history of the university.”

Spellings says it's all apart of a marketing effort to highlight the importance of higher education and making it more affordable and accessible.

Spellings says her staff has been working on the rebranding effort since last April at a price of around $250,000.
