The snow and very cold temperatures that pummeled North Carolina Wednesday and Thursday will quickly transition to a much warmer and drier weather pattern over the weekend.

High pressure building across the Gulf Coast states will allow dry and warm air to return to the region over the next few days.

Temperatures will increase quickly day by day from Friday through Sunday and be coupled with plenty of sunshine.

Friday will be about 10 to 15 degrees warmer than Thursday with highs soaring into the upper 40s to low 50s under a beautifully clear sky. With more snow melt expected and another night of below-freezing temperatures, patchy black ice will be another possibility by Saturday morning for secondary, less used roads.

Saturday into Sunday will feature above average temperatures, with lower 60s likely for many by Sunday afternoon.

Dry conditions will prevail for the first part of Monday before a cold front moving through Monday night brings a quick shot of rain back to the region.
