YORK CO., N.C. -- A memorial to Detective Michael Doty, an officer who died from a shooting in York County earlier this week, stands outside the York County Sheriff's Office.

Doty had been with the office for 12 years and was a member of the SWAT team.

One resident said she wanted to make sure his family knows he'll be missed.

"Just to show that they have support, that as they are going through this hard time, they do have the community as well as our residents and staff showing and giving back to them," said Sophia Chacon, a York, South Carolina, resident.

The suspect in the shooting, 47-year-old Christian McCall, was also shot and is recovering in the hospital.

A celebration of life service for Doty will be held at noon on Monday at the Calvary Church on Pineville-Matthews Road in Charlotte.

He will be buried at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill.
