CHARLOTTE -- A moving and powerful scene took place at overpasses in Charlotte and York County.

First responders paid tribute and honor to Detective Mike Doty.

The detective with the York County Sheriff's Office was shot and killed in the line of duty earlier this week and died Wednesday night.

While his body received a full police escort, firefighters and other officers stood atop some bridges and saluted the fallen hero.

The escort took Detective Doty's body first to the medical examiner's office and then eventually home in York County.
