CHARLOTTE – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a deadly domestic-related shooting involving two Mecklenburg County Sheriff's deputies in the University City area of Charlotte.         

Deputy James Hawkins was found dead Monday at a home on Ashley Meadow Road.

Police say his wife, Deputy Rataba Hawkins, is part of the homicide investigation but haven't said how.

Deputy Sheriff Rataba Hawkins has been with MCSO since 2002 and is currently assigned to Field Operations. Her husband had been with MCSO since 2005 and was assigned to Arrest Processing. 

MCSO released this statement: "Our hearts go out to their family as they cope and grieve with this tragedy."

The MCSO will have chaplains available for staff members.
