CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolinas Healthcare System will open its second 24-7 urgent care center on Tuesday.

While it doesn't take the place of an emergency room, it can be an option for non-life threatening injuries and common illnesses.

Carolinas allows patients to check wait times online before they come in.

"It's amazing how many people come from great distances today just to get to our urgent care 24 in the middle of the night, and they prefer that as opposed to going to an ED where the wait times may be longer and the costs are higher," said the Vice President of the Medical Group at Carolinas HealthCare System Stephen Jones.

The Center City Urgent Care Center opens Tuesday and is located at the intersection of East Morehead Street and South Kings Drive.
