CHARLOTTE -- It may be the one place where there’s good news, and good vibes, all day long. Seacrest Studios at Levine Children’s Hospital continues its mission to uplift young patients, like 9-year-old Ella Samms.

“First day I went here, probably the best day of my life,” said Samms.

Samms and mom Rachael fell in love with the part-radio, part-TV station after a weeklong stay at the facility. Some say the youngster flourished when Program Coordinator Meredith Dean allowed her to sit in the main chair behind the controls.

“She was able to produce,” said Rachael Samms. “Run music, announce games, announce answers to puzzles. That was her place.”

Patients sometimes even interview celebrities, like Ella’s encounter with Nickelodeon star Kyla-Drew.

Dean said the almost 5-year-old facility has grown immensely. Some 30 patients call in a day for music and games, and their intern program expanded to 14 students a semester.

“One patient came though the studio and he had an unbelieveable voice. Blown away, 8 years old. He created his own YouTube channel after he was here,” said Dean.

Another former patient became an intern while majoring in communcations while at college. It's easy to see why Samms and so many others love their time here.

“Makes her forget for a bit that she’s here for a reason. Makes here smile, makes her so happy,” said Rachael.

The studio's official five year anniversary will feature a celebrity guest, Disney princesses and lots of patients running the show.
