JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – Funeral arrangements are set for 3-year-old Mariah Woods.

Although services will be private, members of the community are invited to attend a public visitation, according to her obituary on Jones Funeral Home’s website.

The visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home located at 303 Chaney Avenue in Jacksonville.

Meanwhile, a massive memorial in honor of Mariah has been erected near her Jacksonville home.

It's located along the street where Mariah lived on Dawson Cabin Road and continues to build as each day passes with teddy bears, flowers and photos.

Mariah's father, Alex Woods, stopped by the memorial Tuesday to write a message that reads, “Daddy loves you Mariah.”

"We're such a tight knit community here that it's so heartbreaking that we couldn't protect one of our children and that's the saddest part is that we could have done more and we failed this little girl,” said neighbor Kim Mitchell.

"It's just heart wrenching and this child didn't deserve this and I just feel it deep down," said Linda Clendenin, who hosted a candlelight vigil for Mariah. "It means a lot to this community that people are standing up and saying ‘You know what, we can't take this kind of stuff. We need to do something about this.’"

Last Saturday, investigators found a body they believe to be Mariah in a Pender County creek.

On Monday, 32-year old Earl Kimrey, the live-in boyfriend of Mariah's mother, made his first appearance in court. He faces multiple charges in connection with her death.

“The Mariah Woods Fund” has been set up at First National Bank in Jacksonville to help the family with upcoming expenses.
