CHARLOTTE -- Two Charlotte teens are in police custody after a series of overnight burglaries in the Ballantyne area.

Police arrested 16-year-olds Lamariay Witherspoon and Douglas Mobley for a crime spree that started in south Charlotte and ended in Huntersville.

The two teenagers had their first court appearance Tuesday as they are facing several felony breaking and entering charges. The judge told them if their parents sign them out, they can go home until their next court date. They would have to wear electronic monitoring devices.

Businesses hit included JJ's Red Hots, Pizza Hut and Chef Kwo's. All of them are on John J Delaney Drive.

B. GOOD on Ballantyne Village Way and then Chipotle and the Kabuto Japanese Steakhouse on Pineville Matthews Road were also targeted.

“They got $30 in change, that's all they got,” said Jonathan Luther who owns JJ Red Hots. “We have safe. This has happened before. We learned our lesson and bolted down a safe.”

Around 4:30 a.m., Huntersville police responded to a car crash on Beatties Ford Road near Carrington Pointe and several cash registers were found at the scene.

Investigators put out a description of the car and few hours later, the teens were arrested after a police chase and crash in Huntersville

Police said the suspects broke into the businesses by smashing glass with a rock and going after the cash register.

CMPD said what happened to the businesses is unfortunate, but praised their owners for taking preventative measures, like not leaving cash in the registers over night

The two teens have several charges between them from Charlotte and Huntersville.

The burglaries are still under investigation.  If you have any information, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers.
