LUMBERTON, N.C. -- Giving thanks for the little things, Hurricane Matthew victim Kenneth McMillian is happy to be out in his yard this weekend.

It was the first time in 13 months that he's been able to do some yard work, and he's grateful to be back out.

"We lost about everything we had," says McMillain. "We're thankful that people helped us. I mean the neighborhood around they brought us food."

Neighbor, Amanda Ford, says she's grateful simply for her and her family to be alive.

"I'm grateful because I realize that...we lost a lot of things...but our lives were spared," said Ford.

And resident, Wanda Locklear, is using the weekend to reflect on having a home.

Locklear, who had to be rescued during Hurricane Matthew, says her house is not yet finished, but is grateful to have someplace for her family to lay their heads.
