CHARLOTTE -- A pledge at UNC Charlotte’s Lambda Chi Alpha tells us the fraternity is in hot water after one of its former pledges called them out for hazing last month. The pledge spoke with Spectrum News under the condition of anonymity about the incident.

"Seemed a little extreme for trying to become a brother,” he explained.

He said the incident took place at an off-campus house not too far from the university.

He added, "Making us eat, drink a lot of concoctions, alcohol... forcing us to do squats, push ups yelling at us cussing us out."

After that event, he said his fellow pledge brother wasn’t acting like himself and later dropped out of school, adding he was in contact with UNCC about what happened. According to a letter from the Office of Student Conduct, the student we spoke to was interviewed – as was the rest of the fraternity. While he said he told the office everything, he claimed Lambda Chi made brothers and pledges...

"Delete all our messages - having stories straight, have meetings to get all our stories straight."

Officials with UNCC explain the fraternity was suspended on November 3. In a statement they said, “The organization has been formally charged with alleged violations of the Code, and the Office of Student Conduct is currently investigating the allegations."

The pledge said, "My hope with everything going on around the nation right now with deaths involving hazing and fraternities that this stops.... No one deserves to be treated like that, if they are truly a brother its brotherly love. Its in our creed."

UNCC added they’re in contact with Lambda Chi Alpha’s international headquarters about the matter.
