NORTH CAROLINA -- The State Department of Public Instruction has sent a memo to every school district in North Carolina.
It says some school buses must be re-inspected.
This comes after two Charlotte-Mecklenburg school buses caught fire within the last month.
The DPI says buses built between 1998 and 2003 with a Caterpillar engine must be inspected again and possibly repaired.
They say the source of the fires in Charlotte buses is still under investigation but they appear to have started in the engine compartment.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg school officials say they have already begun working with Freightliner/Thomas-Built, the bus manufacturer, to investigate the fires.
They are also re-inspecting 250 buses.
