HUNTERSVILLE -- Much like the decorations that hang off it, Huntersville’s ConeWeed has branched off with its own anthem. Country music recording artist David Britt is responsible for the next phase of this holiday sensation.

"That's something you would see here in the South! We keep our Christmas lights on year round,” said Britt. “Something that would get people in the spirit of giving and excited about the holidays."

It’s an ode to a weed that grew up out of a construction cone near the corner of Beatties Ford and Gilead Roads. According to firefighters at Huntersville Fire Department Station 2, the display’s decorations have grown for a little over a week now.

"Kind of a novelty with it - something different out here,” explained firefighter JK Williams. “It's just taken off like gangbusters!"

But what makes it special to so many is that it adds a little bit of sparkle to our otherwise chaotic world.

"[It] Shows that people from all sides, backgrounds in life come together to laugh and to share a smile together. That's important," said Britt.

The origin of how ConeWeed got so decked out remains one of the town’s biggest mysteries. Whoever it may be, Huntersville’s very own Charlie Brown Christmas Tree continues to sparkle both day and night.
