TAYLORSVILLE -- A senior living center in Alexander County is shutting down after a scathing report from the state revealed numerous medicine, personnel and food violations including missing medications and improperly prepared meals.

It’s a 71 page report from the state filled with violations all concerning the Alexander Assisted Living Facility located along busy highway NC 16 south.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services sent a letter to the facility's owner last week saying their license to operate will expire November 8. Some say it was for the best.

The in-depth report revealed things like frozen meat put in a bowl of water, left to thaw, with tap water dripping over it. At least one cook had no training before he started working there.

The problems extend beyond the kitchen. The state found medication problems as well.

One chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, COPD, patient got his inhaler some days but not others.

Patients' Percocet tablets missing, replaced with Tylenol pills and the back of some medicine packets were taped over.

Other problems noted were improper medication doses, inconsistent medical reports and even the sharing of glucose blood testers.

Not everyone experienced issues, though, one woman who was there to pick up a patient for dinner said off camera her friend never had any complaints.

The facility holds around 32 patients at full capacity. A worker off camera said that the patients who are here, will be transferred to other area facilities once this one closes.

Spectrum News did reach out to the owner of the assisted living facility, Kenneth Ramsey, but he did not respond to our request for comment.
