RALEIGH – City officials broke ground for two new apartment complexes in downtown Raleigh Tuesday.

The project at The Village and Booker Park North, both at Washington Terrace, is the first to receive funding from the city under their affordable housing improvement plan.

A new community building and child care center is also in the works.

The city is providing more than $8 million for the plan, part of those funds come from the once cent property increase in the property tax rate the city council voted on and approved last year.

The Village will cost $32 million, will provide 162 units and is expected to be done in March 2019.

Booker Park North will provide just over 70 units for senior citizens. The $11.8 million project is expected to be complete by the end of next year.
