CHARLOTTE -- Mecklenburg County Commissioners unanimously approved a new five year contract Tuesday night for Charlotte-Mecklenburg police to patrol the unincorporated areas of Charlotte, Mint Hill and Davidson.

The county will pay the police department $14 million a year and Police Chief Kerr Putney will present semi-annual reports to commissioners on crime data and service levels.

The contract also includes no tax increases for residents of the areas.

The towns of Huntersville, Pineville and Cornelius will patrol their own unincorporated areas.

The contract begins in July.
