ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is raising money to help fund cancer research. Groups of investigators and deputies will be picking up trash until late April. Their work, which is done on their days off, is to help raise money for Relay for Life. Deputies say the more sponsors that get involved, the more donations will go toward the cause.

"Excellent cause, I personally know several people who have cancer, and the research is very valuable and important,” said Shawn Hill, a Deputy Sheriff with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office will continue to pick up trash until April 29th. Each sponsor is asked to give a donation of $30. Sponsors on board include F & M Bank and The Forum of Salisbury. Each bag of garbage collected means three more dollars toward the cause.
