CHARLOTTE—The annual Charlotte Crop Hunger Walk has hit a milestone.

The walk has now raised $8 million for people in need around the world over its 37 years, according to organizers.

Executive Director Shay Merritt says a quarter of that stays local.

“Since the last crop walk, Crisis Assistance Ministry helped over 20-thousand families keep their homes and keep the lights on. Loaves and Fishes fed over 78-thousand people, that's enough to fill Bank of america Stadium... And Second Harvet Food Bank distributed over 10 million pounds of food and household items in Mecklenburg County,” she said.

The crop walk hopes to raise about $300,000 this year.

Even though the walk was Sunday, organizers say you can still give online at http://charlottecropwalk.org/
