CHARLOTTE—NC MedAssist helped hundreds of families get a healthy start to the new school year.

It partnered with A Child's Place to dispense over the counter medicines and school supplies for those in need. MedAssist says there are about 60,000 people in Mecklenburg County who are low income, uninsured, and looking for help.

"People walk around daily having diabetes or high blood pressure,” said Executive Director Lori Gian. “They're literally taking their lives in their own hands every day because they can't get access to their medications."

NC MedAssist helped nearly 600 people at Friday's giveaway.
