CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Everything’s bigger in Tex-Mex, or in this case, Superica.

  • Superica is the latest eatery folks are buzzing about in South End.
  • The restaurant specializes in Tex-Mex food.
  • Superica is a portmanteau of "super" and "rich."

“It’s really heavy. It’s really cheesy, big portions. There’s a lot of meat,” said Ashley Jones, the general manager of Superica.

Superica brings a taste of the old frontier, deep in the heart of South End.

“It’s really heavy, it’s really cheesy, big portions, there’s a lot of meat. Superica or Rico means rich or really good. So in terms of our restaurant, we’re saying the food is fantastic.”

It’s the perfect place to hang your hat and wet your whistle, but you’re not drinking watered whiskey or warm beer.

They have one-of-a-kind cocktails like the light rail, a traditional cognac drink with a smoky flavor to compliment the food.

“Here we actually use a really nice blood orange solerno, mixed with a real nice bourbon, a little citrus then finish it off with chile bitters,” said Michael Craft, the beverage supervisor.

It is the drink of choice to pair with Superica’s deluxe fajitas -- grilled skirt steak, grilled chicken breast and gulf shrimp that is stuffed with cheese and jalapeno, wrapped in bacon.

And Superica’s flour tortillas handmade to order!

“It’s kind of like a feast and you get the best of everything we have to offer,” said Jones.

It all makes for a “superica” meal – a Texas feeling too good to mess with.

“It’ kind of this feeling so when you come in here you're feeling comfortable, your feeling full, you're feeling happy,” said Jones.
