RALEIGH -- You may be face down in the computer searching for Cyber Monday deals, but don't forget to help your neighbor in need this Giving Tuesday.  Just in time for the holidays,  the 11th annual V Week for Cancer Research gets underway Nov. 28 and runs on ESPN platforms through Dec. 8. 

The week encourages us to support, donate, and raise awareness about cancer through the theme "Cancer Is," by sharing inspirational stories about patients, researches, care-givers and doctors.

On Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m., ESPN is dedicating its platforms to share inspirational stories from former NC State Men's Basketball Coach Jim Valvano and others. 

The V Foundation also has a number of other ways that you can give back and get involved this holiday season: 

Jimmy V Basketball Classics

  • The Jimmy V Women’s Basketball Classic:
    • Notre Dame vs. UConn on Sunday, Dec. 3, at the XL Center in Hartford, CT
  • The Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic:
    • Doubleheader on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Madison Square Garden
    • At 7 p.m. Syracuse vs. UConn, and at 9 p.m. Gonzaga vs. Villanova

Victory Ride to Cure Cancer

  • The V Foundation is bringing a new signature event to Central NC
  • The Victory Ride will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018
  • The ride takes cyclists through central North Carolina neighborhoods and includes 100-, 60-, and 30- mile ride options, as well as a short family ride distance. Fundraising levels are determined by the length of the ride: $250-$1,000 fundraising minimums
  • The ride benefits Duke Cancer Institute, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Wake Forest Baptist Health Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as breakthrough cancer research nationwide
