SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio Spurs legend officially announced his retirement on Saturday.

Manu Ginobili is leaving the NBA after 16 seasons, all with the Spurs.

Saturday, Ginobili spoke publicly for the first time after announcing his decision in a tweet last month. The Spurs great said the team was well aware he was leaning toward retirement after last season.

It wasn't until after Ginobili returned from vacation that he notified coach Gregg Popovich of his decision.  Manu said he felt good about moving forward and even joked about his family's reaction to the news.

As for what's next, Ginobili said he plans to spend some time in his home country of Argentina. He also wants to assist the team at practice and attend some games.
